About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Stigma Version is a story-focused FireRed ROM hack that leans heavily into darker themes, horror elements, and Pokémon lore. Development began in 2013 and concluded with Beta 1.6, which represents the final and complete version of the game.
Although officially labeled as a beta, the game is fully playable from start to finish. The beta label reflects ongoing polish rather than missing content. Development has since ended, and no further updates or bugfixes are planned. Player feedback and community content are acknowledged as a major part of the project’s lifespan.
The hack contains harsh language and mature themes and is intended for a PG-15 audience.
Story Overview
The story takes place in the Kanto Region, but not the Kanto players remember. You begin your journey in Lavender Town, where unsettling events are already unfolding. After the appearance of a mysterious hooded man in Pokémon Tower, a strange virus begins spreading across the region—one that turns both Trainers and Pokémon into mindless, aggressive ghouls.
Alongside your companions Selena and Erik, you must uncover the origin of the virus and dismantle the plans of Team Nihilus, a shadowy organization exploiting the chaos. Throughout the journey, you’ll encounter morally ambiguous characters, including the scientist Lumos, who seeks a cure, and Great Sage Stephano, whose true motivations are anything but clear.
The narrative is layered with deception, shifting alliances, religious symbolism, and existential threats. Gym Leaders, legendary entities, and familiar characters from across the Pokémon universe all play roles in a story where trust is fragile and the fate of Kanto rests entirely in your hands.
