About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Dragonstone Version is a classic story-focused Pokémon Ruby ROM hack, originally created in 2012 and officially preserved with a Final Edition release in January 2024.

Developed by Alexander Nicholi, this hack represents one of the earliest ambitious narrative-driven Pokémon ROM hacks on PokéCommunity. While Dragonstone was created during the developer’s teenage years, its influence later extended into much larger projects such as Pokémon Citrite Version, Project Trinity, and the conceptual Project Unity trilogy.

This final edition serves as a historical archive release, ensuring the game is preserved exactly as it was intended—without further updates, expansions, or bug fixes.

Story Overview

Pokémon Dragonstone is set in a world filled with mysterious cities and factions, including iconic locations such as Opal Metropolis and Deadwood.

The game builds upon the legacy of Team Aqua and Team Magma, expanding the concept of villainous organizations through new groups such as Quaz and C.C.A.C.C. While the game does not feature a fully linear, beginning-to-end epic narrative, it focuses heavily on worldbuilding, atmosphere, and faction intrigue.

Your journey progresses until you:

  • Deliver Professor Yew’s letter to Hinkage
  • Defeat Sammi, the first Gym Leader

At that point, the story concludes, as this version represents the final preserved build of the project.
