About This ROM Hack
Pokémon Dark Future is a story-focused Pokémon Crystal ROM hack that dramatically expands the original Johto storyline with a time-travel narrative and darker tone. While staying faithful to the Generation II engine and mechanics, the hack reworks nearly every location and dialogue to deliver a more intense and mature experience.
This hack is best known for its alternate future storyline, stronger portrayal of Team Rocket, and a plot that challenges the player to prevent a doomed future from becoming reality.
Story Overview
Your journey begins in Sunshine City, where Professor Elm assigns you a simple task: visit Mr. Pokémon while he attends a meeting in Sandstone City.
However, things quickly spiral out of control.
At Mr. Pokémon’s house, you learn that a red-haired man—accompanied by mysterious men in black—has attacked a laboratory and stolen a Pokémon. Soon after, you return to Golden City, where Professor Elm’s assistant reveals a shocking truth:
he has traveled one year back in time using a time machine.
The future of Planet Suden is bleak.
A powerful figure has risen as the new leader of Team Rocket, pushing the world toward darkness and domination.
Knowing the future gives you a chance to change it.
With guidance and special training from Lance, the current Pokémon League Champion, you must grow strong enough to challenge fate itself. If you can defeat Lance, you may be the one capable of preventing the dark future from becoming reality.
