About This ROM Hack
Pokémon: Azure Horizons is a FireRed-based ROM hack created by Frostbite (with beta testing and quality checks by Drayano). Set in the Zephyr Region, this hack introduces a completely new map with diverse environments to explore and new challenges for players seeking a fresh Pokémon RPG experience. The project aims to merge the classic charm of FireRed with select features from Diamond & Pearl, including improved sprites, running indoors, and battle mechanics enhancements. Frostbite intended this hack to be a high-quality, immersive RPG experience with new storylines, sidequests, and engaging events throughout the region.
This is Frostbite’s first serious attempt at a complete hack and focuses on strategic gameplay, aesthetic improvements, and a balance of classic and modern Pokémon features.
Story Overview
You are a young trainer recently accepted into the regional Pokémon league, aspiring to follow in the footsteps of your older brother, a legendary trainer. Your journey begins normally, with the goal of growing stronger through battles and challenges, eventually reaching the top of the Pokémon league. However, early in your adventure, you encounter mysterious trainers causing disturbances throughout Zephyr Region. Their motives are unclear and may conflict with your own objectives. Along the way, you meet allies and rivals whose true intentions unfold as you progress, creating a layered story full of intrigue, strategy, and exploration.
