About This ROM Hack
Pokémon AlteRed is built around a single bold idea: every Pokémon is different. All 411 Pokémon available in the Gen 3 FireRed ecosystem have been retyped, redesigned, renamed, and rebalanced into entirely new “Alter Pokémon.”
Rather than acting as a difficulty hack or simple enhancement, AlteRed reshapes the game into something unfamiliar while still feeling grounded in FireRed’s world. The Kanto region has been revised with new areas and adjustments to accommodate the altered ecosystem, while modern mechanics and extensive quality-of-life improvements bring the experience closer to newer generations—without losing its classic roots.
An optional alternate version, AlteRed: With a Gun, exists as a harder April Fool’s mode with exclusive content and increased challenge.

- Optional Hard Mode – AlteRed With a Gun: An alternate version released as an April Fool’s mode that functions as a harder variant with exclusive Pokémon and balance tweaks.
Known Bugs & Issues
- Entering a double battle with only one Pokémon in the party can cause severe glitches and may softlock the game.
- Rarely, shiny Pokémon may appear without sparkle effects or shiny indicators.
