About This ROM Hack

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Legendary Edition is a simple gameplay modification for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky that focuses entirely on changing the available hero and partner Pokémon. Instead of beginning the adventure with the game's standard starter roster, players have the opportunity to play as legendary and mythical Pokémon, creating a very different experience from the original game.

The hack leaves the core gameplay, story, and dungeon progression intact while replacing much of the starter selection system. Depending on the personality quiz and chosen gender, players have a much higher chance of starting as Mew, Celebi, or Jirachi, with a few original starter Pokémon still appearing as rare possibilities.

After selecting the hero Pokémon, players can choose from a large roster of legendary and mythical partner Pokémon, allowing for unique team combinations that are impossible in the original Explorers of Sky.

Key Features

  • Legendary Hero Pokémon: Begin the game as legendary or mythical Pokémon instead of the standard starter roster.
  • Mew as a Playable Hero: Male players have a high chance of starting the adventure as Mew through the personality quiz.
  • Celebi as a Playable Hero: Female players are most likely to begin the game as Celebi, including the possibility of playing as a shiny pink Celebi.
  • Jirachi as a Playable Hero: Jirachi has also been added as one of the primary hero Pokémon available through the quiz.
  • Modified Personality Quiz Results: The personality test has been adjusted to heavily favor legendary and mythical Pokémon while still allowing a small chance of receiving several original starters.
  • Gender-Based Starter Distribution: Hero Pokémon probabilities differ depending on whether the player selects a male or female character.
  • Shiny Celebi Option: Female players have a chance of receiving a shiny (pink) Celebi through the modified personality quiz.
  • Expanded Legendary Partner Selection: After choosing the hero Pokémon, players can recruit a partner from an expanded selection of legendary and mythical Pokémon.
  • Legendary Companion Choices: Available partners include Pokémon such as Mew, Mewtwo, Jirachi, Zapdos, Moltres, Articuno, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Rayquaza, Manaphy, Suicune, Entei, Raikou, Celebi, and several returning original partner options.
  • Original Explorers of Sky Gameplay: Aside from the hero and partner roster, the game's story, dungeon progression, mechanics, and overall gameplay remain faithful to the original release.
